Named for Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) Franklin County information: Near the county's center on United States Highway 84 are Bude, its largest community, and Meadville, the county seat. Both are situated approximately halfway between Jackson, Mississippi to the north and Baton Rogue, Louisiana to the south. Roxie, also on the United States Highway 84, is located in the western portion of the county.
