Lazarus Family History

   In 1808 the Lazarus family migrated to Mississippi from Union County South Carolina. They first settled in Adams County in or near the town of Washington. Soon after arriving in the area, some moved into Franklin County.
   They were the children of Nicholas Lazarus and probably a daughter of Edward Sanders Porter of Union Co. SC. I also think that it is a good possibility that their mother was either Sarah or Mary listed below.
 
  Thomas Lazarus was born ca 1786 SC, and died in 1866 in Franklin Co Ms. He married Elizabeth "Betsy" Murray in Adams County Ms. on Nov. 18, 1814. She was born in 1799 and died Jan. 2, 1838.  They are buried at the Lazarus Cemetery that is located off of Hwy 33 near Roxie Ms. in Franklin County. Their children were,
  1. James Murry Lazarus 1816-1875. Married Sarah King May Feb. 26, 1840 in Franklin Co.
  2. Sarah Lazarus 1818-1913. Married Benjamin May on April 13, 1837 in Franklin Co.
  3. Mary E. Lazarus 1829-1857. Married Joseph Perrot Jan. 3, 1844.
  4. Thomas Ferdinand Lazarus b. Feb.7, 1830 d. Aug. 15, 1900. Married Amanda Grover.
  5. George Pipkin Lazarus b. Dec. 31, 1837, d. Feb 22, 1863. Married Clara Ann Seals.
 
  William Lazarus was born ca 1888 SC. and died after 1850. He married Polly Martin Boots in Adams Co. Ms. on Aug. 18, 1815. Polly was born ca 1789 and died Aug. 27, 1850 in Adams Co.
Polly was the daughter of Ann Martin. They lived near the town of Washington Ms. I only have three children for them, there may have been more.
  1. Lucretia Lazarus
  2. Malinda Lazarus ca1820 married Joseph Gains.
  3. William Morris Lazarus ca1832.
 
Sarah "Sally" Lazarus born ? died Oct. 1829. Lived near the town of Washington in Adams Co. married Hugh Thompson in Adams Co. on Sept. 14,1814.  When Sally died she had a large estate and Hugh was not mentioned in any of the estate papers.
 
Nicholas Lazarus was born Dec.3,1794 in SC. and died Nov.13,1878. He married Mary Rebecca Hutchins in Adams Co. on Mar. 21,1815. She was  born Dec. 24,1796 the daughter of John Anthony Hutchins and Rebecca Hardin. They are buried near Wrights Church in Franklin Co.
Their children were,
  1. Sarah Lazarus b.Nov.15,1815, d April 11,1895 in Franklin Co. Married Tillet Porter on
     Aug 25,1845 in Franklin Co. Tillet died Jan.3,1849. Sarah married 2nd Edward Porter Lazarus 
     Jr. on March 21,1858. He was her 1st cousin.
  2. Andrew Lazarus b. March 18,1819 married Celia. It is said that Andrew and Celia went into  
     Indian territory, and Andrew died there.
  3. Thomas Nichodemus Lazarus b. Sept.20,1820
  4. Martha Virginia Lazarus b. Jan.29,1823. d. Jan.22,1905 Pa. Married Joseph Ladd in Franklin
     Co. on Sept.15,1841.
  5. John Joseph Lazarus b. Nov. 23,1825 died in Boones Co Arkansas.
  6. Nicholas Reighnau Lazarus b.Jan.19,1828, d. Feb.20,1902 ib Boones Co. Arkansas. Married
     Sarah Jane Leggo in East Carroll Parish La.on Jan.12,1859. Married 2nd Martha
  7. Elizabeth Rebecca "Becky" Lazarus b. June 21,1830 d.Jan.31,1932. Married Dr. Jose P.
     Rodriguez on Feb.22,1851. Jose was born May 27, 1817 in Tepain Cuba and died July 17,
     1879 in Franklin Co. He was the 1st doctor of Franklin Co.
  8. Barnabus Pipkin Lazarus b.Jan.4,1843 d. Nov.17,1912 Franklin Co. Married Malinda
     Wilson Sept. 18,1855 in Copiah Co Ms. 2nd married Elizabeth Whitehead and 3rd
     Emma Crane.
  9. William Clinton Lazarus b.Sept. 20,1835, d.Jan.16,1897 in Jefferson Co Ms. Married
     Adeline Rebecca Wright on Oct. 7,1957.
 
Mary Lazarus married Samuel Martin a son of Ann Martin in Adams Co on Jan.25,1825. In the 1816 census, Mary Lazarus was listed as head of household, and she was over 21.
 
Edward Porter Lazarus was born ca 1800 SC. Married Malinda Peas in Adams Co. on July 23,1823. They lived near the town of Washington Ms. Their children were,
  1.Edward Porter Lazarus Jr. b. May 6,1824, d. Aug. 13,1900. Married Sarah Lazarus Porter on
    March 21,1858.
  2. Shadrak Lazarus
  3. Nicholas Lazarus ca 1830 married Elizabeth McCoy abt 1855. married 2nd Sarah Jane Smith
     in 1867.
  4. Cortney Ann Lazarus married Zachariah Martin in Adams Co on April 6,1846.
  5. Mary Frances Lazarus ca 1836 married William Thomas Powell.
  6. Ava Ann Lazarus died March 17,1922. Married John Hezekial Jones.
 
Andrew Lazarus married Telitha Delaney in Adams Co. on May 10,1825. May have ived in the Pine Ridge area of Adams Co.
 
Hancock Lazarus was born Aug. 1803 SC. died Jan. 2,1878 in Moorehouse or Richland  Parish La. Married Nancy "Ann" Morgan Phillips in Adams Co. on June 11,1834 and they divorced in 1837. Ann died in 1841. They had one child,
  1. Mary Jane Lazarus b.March 31,1834 married Peter Winslow Wynn on Feb. 11,1859.
Hancock married 2nd Mary Goosney in Adams Co on Nov. 18,1837, and 3rd Mary Tensey in Adams Co. on Aug.25,1842. Their children were,
  2. Lorretta Lazarus b. Aug 14,1843, d. Nov.11,1859.
  3. James Lazarus b.Nov.13,1845, d. Nov. 24,1845
  4. William Henry Lazarus b. Dec.10,1846.
  5. John H. Lazarus b.June 18,1849, d. Dec. 25, 1878
  6. Albert M. Lazarus b. July 29,1851, d. Dec.18,1870.
  7. Lewis C. Lazarus b. Oct. 29,1853, April 3,1885
  8. Andrew Jackson Lazarus b. June 19,1856.
  9. Thomas E. Lazarus b. Aug.20,1858, d. Sept.7,1872.
 10. Joseph W. Lazarus b. June 20,1860, d. Oct.13,1870.
 11. Mary E. Lazarus b. Sept.27,1862, d. July 10, 1875.
 12. Virginia C. Lazarus b. April 26,1866.
 13. Sarah N. Lazarus b. Feb.6,1869.
 
Elizabeth "Betsy" Lazarus was born ca 1807 SC. She married Wilson Phipps in Adams Co. on Jan.5,1830. I only have one child for them,
  1. Edward Phipps born in Adams Co.
