There have been several newspapers in

Franklin County over the years.  These are a few of them.

 

The Franklin Advocate

began publication in 1890 as a weekly paper

and is still being published today.

 

The Southern Progress was published in Garden City.

Mississippi Free Trader and Natchez Gazette, June 28, 1845
 
Meadville, June 16th, 1845
  Pursuant to public notice, a meeting of the democratic party of the county of
Franklin, was held in the town of Meadville, on Monday the 16th day of June,1845.
  Upon motion of Thos. Lochridge, Judge James M. Jones was called to the chair,
and Wm. J. Proby appointed Secretary.  The object of the meeting being explained
by the chair, Hiram Cassedy moved that the chair appoint fifteen persons as
delegates to the State Convention, to be held at Jackson on the 7th day of July
next; whereupon, the chair appointed the following persons:  Thos. Havis, Hiram
Cassedy, Dr. C. C. Campbell, Wm. Calvet, Jr., Thos. Lochridge, Wm. J. Proby,
Charles Stewart, Geo. A. Cloy, J. R. Cotton, James Johnson, W. Calvetsen, D.
H. McMillan, Nathan Smith, Edmund Tucker and upon motion of Hiram Cassedy, the
chairman of the meeting was added to the list of delegates.
   Upon motion of George A. Cloy, the meeting proceeded to nominate a candidate
to represent this county in the ensuing legislature, and the name of Hiram
Cassedy being suggested to the meeting by G. A. Cloy, Esq. as a suitable
candidate for that office, it was unanimously
   Resolved, That Hiram Cassedy be declared the nominee of this convention to
represent this county in the next Legislature.
  Upon motion of G. A. Cloy, Esq. it was
  Resolved, That the proceedings of this meeting be signed by the chairman and
secretary, and that the Mississippi Free Trader at Natchez be requested to
publish
the same.
  Upon motion the meeting adjourned.
